Pentagram has launched Overlooked, an exhibition of London’s street covers. The show follows the success of the ÌýPentagram PaperÌýby the same name and isÌýan exploration into the gatekeepers of London’s underground world as iconic pieces of industrial design.
The Overlooked exhibition ran for two days in late September 2016 as part of and was hosted by Protein Studios in Shoreditch. A limited run of Overlooked posters were screen printed for purchase at the exhibition, and proved so popular that further runs are still available online.
The exhibition launched a new series of rubbings which place different neon street covers on top of each other for the first time. Each cover has been painstakingly reproduced using the process of brass rubbing—a practice traditionally applied to religious objects. This technique of the devout has been used celebrate the beauty of industrial craftsmanship, uncovering its details, nuances and decorative flourishes.
