Students in Kerry Welcome’s seventh-grade science class on Thursday learned – and quickly mastered – the art of the triple-beam balance.

Once they got the hang of these sensitive measuring tools, they calculated the mass of a glass beaker, a wood block, a seashell and a variety of other classroom items pulled from their desks and the science shelves.
